Marching Again for Middlebury Fire

The forecast wasn't promising — but by the time Danbury Drum Corps stepped off in Beacon Falls on Saturday evening, the skies had cleared and the parade was on.

Marching for Middlebury

Danbury Drum Corps has marched alongside the Middlebury Fire Department for decades, and Saturday night was another chapter in that long tradition. Middlebury had a great night on the competition side, taking home Best Overall — a well-deserved win for a fire company that's been on a roll. Last year, Middlebury won the State Convention, and they showed again in Beacon Falls why they're one of the best in the state.

A Tradition Since the 1960s

One of the best-kept secrets of the Beacon Falls Fireman's Parade isn't the trophies or the music — it's the bologna sandwiches. The Beacon Falls Senior Center has been making sandwiches for the marchers after the parade since the 1960s. This year we had to skip them with Danbury's fireworks calling, but it's the kind of small-town tradition that reminds you why community parades matter — and one we look forward to getting back to next year.

Home by 7

With Danbury's own fireworks display on the schedule for the evening, the corps skipped the bullpen and headed home — parade done, Best Overall trophy secured for Middlebury, and plenty of time to catch the fireworks. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday in June.
