Honoring Memorial Day Through Music, Tradition, and Community
Memorial Day weekend is always one of the most meaningful weekends of the year for the Danbury Drum Corps. While weather impacted several events across the region this year, the spirit of remembrance and community remained strong throughout the weekend.
Unfortunately, both the Brookfield Memorial Day Parade on Sunday and the Danbury Parade on Monday were canceled due to rain. While disappointing, especially for the many veterans, families, and community members who look forward to these traditions each year, the weekend still gave us an opportunity to come together in meaningful ways.
Thankfully, the parade in Ridgefield marched on without a hitch. It was an incredible turnout and a reminder of how important these community traditions remain. Seeing residents lining the streets, waving flags, and honoring those who served made the evening especially memorable for our members.
Following the parade, we gathered at Bennett Park in Bethel for a Memorial Day picnic filled with music, stories, friendship, and reflection. At 3:00 PM, our horn line proudly performed a rendition of TAPS as part of Taps Across America, joining thousands across the country in honoring the fallen.
Such as tradition with the Danbury Drum Corps, we also read the names of the 29 “20-Year Members” who have since passed on. These individuals helped shape the legacy, tradition, and family atmosphere that continues to define the corps today. Their dedication and love for music and community will never be forgotten.
As we continue our march toward celebrating 100 years of continuous active service next year, weekends like this remind us why these traditions matter so much. Memorial Day is about more than parades and performances. It is about honoring sacrifice, preserving history, and bringing communities together.
We now look ahead to two upcoming performances:
📍 Pleasantville Fireman’s Parade — Friday, May 29 at 7:00 PM
📍 Katonah Fireman’s Parade — Wednesday, June 3 at 7:00 PM
We hope to see many familiar faces along the parade routes as we continue celebrating music, service, and community together.
